Tackling the tiny gap: Keep your kitchen hygienic & fresh
In the kitchen, we often focus on cleaning countertops, the sink, or the induction hob itself, forgetting about one small but very problematic spot – the gap between the worktop and the hob. How do you get rid of dirt from this tricky area?
Even though the surface of the induction hob is smooth and easy to clean, the space between it and the worktop is often overlooked. That's where food scraps, breadcrumbs, greasy stains from frying, and even dust accumulate.
Because the gap is narrow and hard to access, many of us delay cleaning it or forget about it altogether. Unfortunately, over time, the accumulated dirt can harden, become difficult to remove, and even promote the growth of bacteria.
A simple way to cleanliness without dismantling equipment
You don't need to disassemble the induction hob or use specialised tools. All you need is a wooden skewer stick and a piece of damp kitchen roll. Adding a little vinegar to the water can make a difference, as it has antibacterial properties and helps dissolve greasy residues.
How to do it step by step?
- Wrap the tip of the stick with a damp piece of kitchen roll.
- Moisten the paper with water and vinegar to enhance the cleaning effect.
- Gently insert the tool into the gap between the hob and the worktop.
- Slowly move the stick along the entire gap, thoroughly removing all dirt.
Why is regular cleaning of the gap important?
Even though this spot is small, neglecting it can lead to several problems. Firstly, accumulating dirt and grease becomes a breeding ground for bacteria, which can affect the health of household members. Secondly, food scraps left in the gap can cause unpleasant odours. Lastly, a neglected gap can lead to faster wear and tear of the induction hob, as food particles can get into the device's mechanism.
