Teen spy for Russia faces life sentence in Ukraine
The Security Service of Ukraine has detained a 16-year-old Russian military intelligence agent. The girl documented the locations of air defence systems. She faces a life sentence for treason.
On Wednesday, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained a 16-year-old resident of Chernihiv who was acting on behalf of Russian military intelligence. The girl travelled around the city area, photographing strategic objects, such as air defence systems and radar stations.
After each outing, she prepared reports that included photos and detailed data. She then sent them anonymously through a chat to an officer of the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GRU). These activities were aimed at preparing for a new airstrike in the region.
The District Prosecutor's Office in Chernihiv is investigating the treason the teenager allegedly committed. She is currently in custody and may be sentenced to life imprisonment for her actions.
More spies caught
On Thursday, the SBU and Ukrainian National Police detained five more individuals working on behalf of Russia. "Among the individuals: repeat offenders and unemployed people looking for 'easy' money on Telegram channels," writes the SBU.
Following orders from the Russians, they attempted to destroy two military vehicles and an administrative building using flammable mixtures.
