We think about how the kitchen will be organised at the design stage. At that point, we determine how many cupboards will be needed and how much space we need for food storage. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t improve a kitchen we’ve been using for years. Here are some proven tips.

Tricks for keeping order in the kitchen

Storing spices in the kitchen often causes problems. When they're in the wrong place, it's hard to find the ones you need, and they sometimes spill. It's better to transfer them to jars or special containers. Then, they can be arranged in cupboards or drawers. Always label them clearly. Spices are similar, and it's easy to mix them up, so this will help prevent that.

  • It's best to store utensils in a drawer just below the worktop, so they're always within reach. Special containers with dividers are useful for them. Kitchen drawer organisers make it easier to sort all utensils and other kitchen accessories. The most frequently used items should be placed at the front of the drawer, while those not used daily should be at the back. Sharp kitchen knives are better kept in a stand or on a magnetic strip. When they're in drawers, it's easier to get injured.
  • Corner cupboards are usually the most spacious. Therefore, they are perfect for storing pots and other larger kitchen accessories. The most convenient ones are those with pull-out baskets. Such a mechanism makes it easier to maintain order. If the cupboard is far from the hob, consider using it for food storage. Meanwhile, pots should be as close as possible.
  • Deep drawers and lower cupboards are also good for storing pots. They are a great place for larger dishes and those rarely used, as well as kitchen appliances. Taking them out from lower drawers or cupboards is much simpler than reaching for upper cupboards.
  • Upper cupboards are ideal for storing coffee, tea, glasses, mugs, or wine glasses. This part of the setup is designed for items that are frequently used and need to be easily accessible.
