Tragedy in Elkhart: Grocery store shooting claims three lives

On Monday, at Martin's supermarket in Elkhart, northern Indiana, a tragic shooting occurred. Three people, including the assailant, lost their lives, and two police officers were injured. The officers, who were taken to hospital, are in a stable condition.
A police spokesperson stated that law enforcement is interviewing witnesses to ascertain the exact circumstances of the incident. Local media, including WNDU-TV, are reporting on the statements of those present at the scene.
Pregnant mother Erin Swary, who was in the store during the shooting, recounted her experience. Initially, she believed a balloon had burst, but when she noticed everyone lying on the floor, she followed suit.
"I would say there were six to eight more shots, one after another. I just lay on the ground, completely paralysed," she said.
"Heroic rescuers"
Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson issued a statement asking residents to pray for the victims, including the two injured police officers, whom he called heroic rescuers.
Indiana Governor Mike Braun stated on social media that he remains in contact with local and state law enforcement regarding the shooting.
