Trump and Putin in two‑hour talk on Ukraine ceasefire

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin said he had a phone conversation with Donald Trump that lasted two hours. "It was candid and substantive," he added. He emphasised that issues concerning a ceasefire and principles for resolving the conflict could be included in the memorandum between Russia and Ukraine.

The dictator stated that "Russia is ready to cooperate with Kyiv on the memorandum concerning a future peace treaty." Putin conveyed that the US president "expressed his position on the ceasefire in the war with Ukraine."

Putin thanked Trump for supporting the resumption of direct negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv. - The conversation took place and lasted over two hours - Putin said. "It was a very informative and sincere discussion, and overall, in my opinion, very helpful in this regard," he stated.

Putin simultaneously reiterated that the "root causes" of the conflict should be eliminated.

The dictator conveyed that the details of the Trump-Putin conversation will be provided by the Russian president's foreign policy advisor Yuri Ushakov and Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

The White House previously informed that the conversation would begin at 4 PM Greenwich Time. However, according to Washington, Trump was supposed to call Zelensky only after the conversation with Putin. Meanwhile, Ukrainian media reported that the conversation was supposed to occur before Trump called Putin. It is not ruled out that there will be a second Zelensky-Trump conversation.
