Trump-Putin truce: Energy infrastructure spared, civilians not

The USA and Russia have agreed to halt attacks on infrastructure, but not on civilians, says Andriy Kovalenko from the Ukrainian Centre for Countering Disinformation.

As a result of discussions between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, an agreement was reached to halt attacks on energy infrastructure by Russia and Ukraine.

"Result of the Trump-Putin talks: Shaheds are flying over the Kyiv region, a major enemy attack is ongoing. There were statements about agreements to cease strikes on energy infrastructure for 30 days, but unfortunately, not about stopping air attacks on civilians," said Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Ukrainian Centre for Countering Disinformation, in a recording posted on Telegram.

Alarm in Kyiv

Shortly after the phone conversation between Trump and Putin ended, an alarm was declared in Kyiv and the Kyiv region. The reason was a massive attack by Russian Shahed drones. "Trump and Putin agreed to make further resolutions, while we are to continue with our tasks" – emphasised Kovalenko.

The alarm in Kyiv was declared after 7 PM Greenwich Time, and shortly thereafter, explosions and the sounds of anti-aircraft guns were heard. More explosions and bursts from heavy machine guns, which are used to shoot down drones, were heard after 11 PM.

An app warning of Russian attacks issued alerts about the heightened level of threat every few minutes. Accompanying them were appeals for residents of Ukraine's capital to urgently seek shelter.
