Trump warns of potential US involvement in Ukraine crisis
Donald Trump, in an interview with Fox News, warned that Americans could become involved in the conflict in Ukraine if it escalates to the level of World War III. He also mentioned that his conversation with Putin was "great."
Following talks with Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump gave an interview on Fox News. In a discussion with Laura Ingraham, the host of "The Ingraham Angle," he expressed concerns that Americans could be drawn into the conflict between Russia and Ukraine if the situation escalates to the level of World War III. He emphasised that his aim is to end the war.
Trump said that at present, we have numerous weapons aimed at each other, and achieving a ceasefire without further steps would be challenging. He added that Russia has the upper hand and they have surrounded around 2,500 Ukrainian soldiers. They are well encircled, which is unfavourable, he added.
Trump suggested that his pursuit of a broader ceasefire aims to avoid involving American forces in a potentially larger conflict. President Trump warned Tuesday that Americans "could be" involved in the Russia-Ukraine war if it were to escalate to "World War III."
Trump described his conversation with Putin as "great," noting that it lasted "almost two hours." He added they discussed numerous topics towards achieving peace.
The Putin-Trump conversation
In statements released after Tuesday's conversation, both sides indicated that the Russian leader agreed to a 30-day suspension of attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
A full ceasefire Russia has conditioned on the West completely halting the supply of arms and intelligence data to Ukraine.
