Trump's controversial rebranding: Gulf of America unveiled
In line with a recent executive order by President Donald Trump, changes are already being announced in the USA. The Gulf of Mexico has been renamed the Gulf of America.
In the United States, the Gulf of Mexico has already been renamed the Gulf of America. "As directed by the President, the Gulf of Mexico will now officially be known as the Gulf of America and North America’s highest peak will once again bear the name Mount McKinley," announced the Department of the Interior.
As Reuters mentions, the name change for the Gulf of Mexico is unlikely to gain international recognition. Mexico, which shares a border with the gulf alongside the United States, stated that the internationally recognised name has been used in maritime navigation for centuries, as noted by NEXTA.
Earlier, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, jokingly suggested renaming a part of North America to reflect its appearance on maps from 1607. - Why don’t we call it Mexican America? It sounds nice, no? - Sheinbaum remarked.
Let us recall that Trump announced he would change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, as he believed the name is "appropriate."
