  • Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, is holding talks with Vladimir Putin in Russia, which is a crucial element of the diplomatic process.
  • The White House stresses that the USA has tools to influence peace negotiations and intends to use them.

Why is Trump disappointed?

During Friday's briefing, the White House spokeswoman Karoline Levitt highlighted that US President Donald Trump is dissatisfied with both sides' actions in the Ukraine conflict. "I think the president has been quite clear that he's been continually frustrated with both sides of this conflict," Levitt said. "(Trump) wants to see this fighting end, he wants the war to end, and we believe we have leverage in negotiating a deal," she added.

What are the next diplomatic steps?

The presence of Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, in Russia, where he is engaging in discussions with Vladimir Putin, is a crucial stage in the diplomatic process. These actions aim to end the war and establish a final peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. The White House believes it has the appropriate tools to influence these negotiations and plans to utilise them.

Do the USA have influence on the peace negotiations?

The White House emphasises that the United States has tools for negotiating peace agreements. "We believe we have leverage in negotiating a peace deal and we're going to use that leverage," added Levitt.
