Ian Brzezinski, a former high-ranking Pentagon official, expressed his outrage at Donald Trump's actions in an interview with PAP. In his opinion, the former U.S. president humiliated Ukraine, the victim of Russian aggression, which was against the interests of the United States. Brzezinski emphasised that such behaviour gave the impression that Trump was acting on behalf of Vladimir Putin.

Did Trump have a chance for a truce?

Brzezinski noted that Trump's policy was not only morally wrong but also illogical from the standpoint of U.S. strategic interests. The former Pentagon official pointed out that Trump had a chance to achieve a lasting truce in Ukraine, but his actions led to concessions towards Russia. He stressed that there is a need to increase pressure on Russia through support for Ukraine and tightening sanctions.

According to Brzezinski, the Trump administration adopted the role of a neutral mediator, which cedes ground to Russia. The former Pentagon official believes that real security guarantees for Ukraine can only be provided by European forces supported by the U.S. Brzezinski also criticised the idea of a minerals agreement that does not give Ukraine any real protections.
