On Sunday evening, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and British Foreign Minister David Lammy issued an appeal to India and Pakistan. They urged both nations to uphold the achieved ceasefire and to improve communication channels. This was reported by the U.S. Department of State.
During a phone conversation with Lammy, Rubio expressed full U.S. support for direct dialogue between India and Pakistan. He emphasised that resolving disputes should occur through dialogue, which is crucial for regional stability.
In a separate conversation with Chancellor Friedrich Merz of Germany, Rubio discussed the situation in Ukraine. Both countries aim to end the Ukrainian-Russian conflict, which is a shared goal of the U.S. and Germany, as stated in a communiqué quoted by CNN.
Ceasefire
Information about the ceasefire between India and Pakistan was conveyed by President Donald Trump. In a post on Truth Social, he informed that both countries had agreed to an "full and immediate ceasefire," which was secured after "long night of talks."
"I am very proud of the strong and unwaveringly powerful leadership of India and Pakistan for having the strength, wisdom, and fortitude to fully know and understand that it was time to stop the current aggression that could have lead to to the death and destruction of so many, and so much," wrote Trump.
The reports were confirmed in an interview with Geo TV by Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The issue was also addressed by an Indian diplomatic representative. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar stated that Delhi and Pakistan have reached an agreement. He also emphasized that India will maintain a strong and unwavering position against terrorism in all its forms and expressions.
