What do you need to know?

  • The agreement between the U.S. and Ukraine regarding rare earth metals will be signed on 24th April.
  • In addition to rare earth metals, the project also includes gas and crude oil.
  • Critics argue that the agreement could strip Ukraine of control over its natural resources.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the agreement on Ukrainian rare earth metals will be signed "next Thursday," that is, on 24th April.

When asked about a possible ceasefire in Ukraine, he said, "We'll see what we can do. And I think we're getting close, but we'll let you know very soon."

Asked about Putin's reaction, Trump announced that the Russians are expected to contact the Americans soon.

"We’re going to be hearing from them this week. Very shortly, actually," he stated. "We want them to stop. We want the death and the killing to stop," he added.

Zelensky: Lawyers are working on the agreement

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky informed that the letter of intent regarding the agreement might be signed as early as Thursday.

Zelensky indicated that recently the U.S. proposed taking an additional step while legal teams continue to work on the agreement. This step involves signing a letter of intent to demonstrate mutual goodwill and constructive intentions. As a result, it is possible that the letter of intent—rather than the final agreement—will be signed online today.

Critics of the agreement are concerned that it might be an attempt to deprive Ukraine of control over its natural resources and infrastructure. The new project involves not only rare earth metals but also gas and crude oil.
