Ukraine hit by waves of Russian missile and drone assaults

A very restless night in Ukraine follows Russian attacks using missiles and drones. Numerous explosions occurred in Kyiv and Kharkiv, and the number of casualties is rising, according to Ukrainian media. On Wednesday night, attacks also took place on Russian-occupied Crimea. The Crimean Bridge was temporarily closed.

What are the effects of the attacks in Kyiv?

Russian attacks on Kyiv caused significant damage in several districts of the city. In the Svyatoshynskyi district, fires occurred at six locations, and people may be trapped under the rubble. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, fires were reported in buildings, and in the Holosiivskyi district, fires broke out in garages and cars.

"Among the injured persons hospitalised by doctors are three children and a pregnant woman," reported Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko just before 1 AM Greenwich Time.

What are the reports from Kharkiv?

Kharkiv also came under heavy fire. The city experienced seven missile attacks, causing damage in the Novobavarskyi district. Local authorities are working to assess the impact of the attacks and mitigate their consequences.

"Russia is currently attacking Kyiv, Kharkiv, and other cities with missiles and drones. Putin is solely demonstrating the desire to kill. The fire must be extinguished. Attacks on civilians must end." wrote the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, on Telegram during the attack.

Attack on Crimea

Russian Telegram channels also reported an attack on occupied Crimea. One of the more popular channels published a map of drones approaching the peninsula.

Just before 11 PM Greenwich Time, the Russians even closed traffic on the Crimean Bridge.

"Traffic on the Crimean Bridge is temporarily closed. We ask people on the bridge and in the control area to remain calm and follow the instructions of transport security services," reported the bridge's official channel.

After about an hour, traffic on the crossing connecting Crimea with Russia was restored.
