Ukraine holds Kursk line: Syrskyi reveals defencive strategy

The Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, met with soldiers fighting in the Kursk region. He revealed that the Ukrainian army is engaged there to prevent Russian advances into the Sumy region.

Syrskyi revealed the purpose of Ukraine's operation in the Kursk region

General Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, stressed that holding positions in the Kursk region is vital to prevent Russian forces from intruding into the Sumy region.

"Here, in the Kursk operational zone, our soldiers are still conducting a defensive operation to stop the adversary from penetrating deep into Ukrainian territory," the general wrote on his Facebook profile.

The Russians lost 55,000 troops in the Kursk region

Within seven and a half months since the start of the Kursk operation, Ukrainian forces have inflicted losses on the enemy exceeding 55,000 troops.

General Syrskyi emphasised that over 22,000 are "irreversible losses". Additionally, more than 940 Russian soldiers were taken prisoner.

Syrskyi visited the soldiers fighting in the Kursk region

General Syrskyi disclosed that he personally visited the units operating in the Kursk sector. He made decisions there, including replenishing ammunition supplies, drones, and repositioning reserves.

The Ukrainian forces unexpectedly entered the Kursk region on 6th August 2024, but since then, under pressure from Russian forces, they had to retreat and have already lost most of the territory they initially occupied there.
