Ukraine launches 'army of drones bonus' to boost frontline tactics

Ukrainian drone operators will receive points. Ukraine has introduced a system for drone operators that rewards units for destroying enemy targets. According to Ukrainian military commanders, the system allows points to be exchanged for new weapons, which will increase operational effectiveness on the front lines.

Ukraine has implemented an innovative reward system for drone operators that is transforming the management of warfare. Front-line units earn points for destroying enemy targets, which can be exchanged for new weapons. According to the Ukrainian army, this approach allows for faster and more effective attacks on Russian forces.

Army of Drones Bonus, or equipment for video

The system, called Army of Drones Bonus, was launched by the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine at the end of 2024. Each unit that destroys Russian targets using drones and provides video evidence receives a set number of points. These points can be exchanged for new drones, which enhance the combat capabilities of the units.

Points for eliminating the enemy

According to UNITED24 Media, the point system includes different values for destroying various targets: 6 points for hitting a soft target, 20 for damaging a tank, 40 for destroying it, and up to 50 points for destroying a mobile missile system. This system not only rewards effectiveness but also allows for better planning and execution of operations.

The Ukrainian army claims that thanks to the point-based reward system, like the Army of Drones Bonus, even lesser-known units can acquire more equipment without the need for media attention. High-performing drone teams are prioritised when new equipment is allocated, allowing them to independently select the drones they need.

This programme also reveals which types of drones are the most effective in combat, assisting the government in placing more precise orders with manufacturers. Long-term contracts support industry development, which is crucial for Ukraine as it faces challenges in meeting demand.

The introduction of the e-points system is just part of Ukraine's strategy. It will soon be integrated with the Brave1 Market, a defence technology marketplace, allowing units to purchase any equipment with the points they earn. This approach decentralises management and enhances operational efficiency on the front lines.
