What you need to know

  • From Saturday night into Sunday, Russia launched attacks using nearly 300 drones and 70 missiles, including ballistic ones, targeting Kyiv and other areas.
  • The attacks resulted in 12 fatalities and 60 injuries, including children. Residential buildings and dormitories were destroyed.
  • Volodymyr Zelensky is urging new sanctions against Russia, underlining that international silence facilitates further aggressive actions by Putin.

President Zelensky reported that these Russian attacks have led to 12 deaths and 60 injuries, including children. They affected multiple regions, such as Kyiv, where the dormitories of the university's history faculty have been destroyed.

"Ordinary residential buildings were destroyed and damaged. In Kyiv, dormitories of the university's history department were hit. There were also strikes on enterprises. Tragically, people were killed, including children. My condolences," Zelensky wrote on social media.

Zelensky calls for sanctions

Zelensky emphasises that without robust pressure on Russian leaders, cruelty cannot be halted. "Without truly strong pressure on the Russian leadership, this brutality cannot be stopped. Sanctions will certainly help. Determination matters now – the determination of the United States, of European countries, and of all those around the world who seek peace," declared the President of Ukraine. He indicates that the weaknesses of the Russian economy are widely known, and only suitable pressure can compel Putin to cease the war.

"Each such terrorist Russian strike is a sufficient reason for new sanctions against Russia. Russia is dragging out this war and continues to kill every day. The world may go on a weekend break, but the war continues, regardless of weekends and weekdays. This cannot be ignored. Silence of America, silence of others around the world only encourage Putin," he stressed.
