Ukrainian drones evade Moscow's defenses in massive strike

Hundreds of drones have struck the Russian capital and its surrounding areas. Footage of the Ukrainian attack on the Moscow region has appeared online, illustrating the ineffectiveness of the Russian air defence. The videos capture Russian attempts to shoot down the approaching military drones, mostly missing their targets.

The attack on the Moscow region occurred in the early hours of 10 April. Footage online reveals hundreds of red dots flying over Moscow.

These ultra-modern drones are equipped with sound transmitters. Their mode of operation is reminiscent of military helicopters. This makes the weapon easier to direct and more challenging to shoot down, a fact that has dawned on those operating the Russian air defence systems.

On the social media footage available, it is clear that the Russians failed to shoot down many of the incoming drones. The majority of their shots miss the mark.

According to witnesses reporting on Telegram, most drones approached from the south-western side of the city. Loud explosions were also heard in Naro-Fominsk, around 43 miles from Moscow.

Some military aircraft circled the Moscow area for an extended period, consistently evading Russian air defence missiles. Several of these aircraft, missed by Russian forces, escaped without any damage.

This is yet another instance of drone attacks on the Moscow region in recent weeks, following a previous one in March. Russian forces have destroyed a total of 74 drones. It remains unclear how many unmanned aerial vehicles eventually reached their targets.

The Ukrainian military intelligence intercepted phone calls of Russians during the drone attacks. From these intercepts, it appears that some Russians residing near the Ukrainian border (an area more frequently targeted) expressed joy at the shelling of the Moscow region.

The intercepted individuals remarked that "all Russians should feel what everyday life in this war is like".
