Ukrainian refugees in Poland to receive long-awaited IDs
More than 80,000 Ukrainian refugees in Poland are set to receive identity documents. Their issuance had been delayed.
Under Ukraine's State Migration Service, the state enterprise document will issue identity documents to over 80,000 Ukrainian citizens residing in Poland. According to the Polish Press Agency, their distribution had been halted until now.
Meeting in Warsaw
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with the Ukrainian community in Warsaw. The issue of document issuance was discussed. The Deputy Head of the Ukrainian President's Office, Iryna Vereshchuk, stated that the problem has been resolved.
"The President has resolved the issue. The passports will be issued. And not only in Poland – everywhere where they are stuck," wrote Vereshchuk on Telegram.
Cooperation of ministries
Vereshchuk emphasized that the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Unity cooperated to issue documents, which is an essential step for Ukrainian citizens who have been waiting a long time.
The decision to issue identity documents is crucial for refugees who need them for legal residence and work. The Polish Press Agency highlights that the problem affects not only Poland but also other countries where the documents had been delayed.
