Ukrainian special ops strike against North Korean troops in Kursk
The Ukrainian Special Operations Forces conducted a successful operation against North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region, eliminating 25 of them.
The Ukrainian Special Operations Forces (SSO) from the 6th "Ranger" Regiment carried out a successful operation against North Korean troops in Russia's Kursk region. As a result of their actions, 25 North Korean soldiers were eliminated. This information was provided by the SSO command.
Eight soldiers from the 6th "Ranger" Regiment moved behind enemy lines in an armoured Humvee vehicle. With the support of reconnaissance drones, the Ukrainian rangers approached shooting distance and took favourable positions in the trenches. Despite the enemy's numerical superiority, the Ukrainian soldiers maintained the initiative and concluded the clash successfully.
The SSO command emphasised that despite artillery shelling and the enemy's numerical superiority, the Ukrainian soldiers "did not leave the entire North Korean platoon a chance during the contact." After completing the mission, the rangers safely withdrew from the action site.
Background of the operation
As noted, this happened last month, but due to operational security, it has only now become possible to talk about it and show video from a drone and body cameras of SSO soldiers - wrote the SSO command.
According to a report by the South Korean think tank KIDA, North Korea's involvement in the conflict in Ukraine has brought the Pyongyang regime over 20 billion dollars (15 billion pounds) in profit. It is estimated that about 4,000 of the 11,000 North Korean soldiers sent there have died on the front.
Consequences for the region
North Korea's involvement in the conflict in Ukraine could have far-reaching consequences for the region. South Korean authorities have assured that they will continue to support the Ukrainian nation and cooperate with the international community to "restore peace" in Ukraine.
South Korean intelligence services confirmed that Pyongyang sent over a thousand military personnel to Russia at the end of January and the beginning of February.
