The Colombian Attorney General's Office has taken action to clarify the alarming reports regarding the possible concealment of thousands of bodies. Human remains are said to be located in a hangar at El Dorado Airport in Bogotá.

Suspicions about this terrifying act of genocide were communicated to Colombian authorities by representatives of the UN's Commission on Abducted Persons. Members of this team recently visited Colombia.

Victims of genocide - civilians abducted and mass-murdered during the civil war - may be located in the airport hangars at El Dorado in Bogotá. The conflict from 1964 to 2016 claimed hundreds of thousands of lives.

In response to these reports, the Colombian government, concerned by this information and the potential scale of the discovery, has requested the Institute of Forensic Medicine to conduct examinations to confirm or deny these reports.

According to the Colombian Unit for the Search of Disappeared Persons, on the official list of missing persons before 2016, when the peace agreement with the FARC guerrillas was signed, there are as many as 111,000 names. It is estimated that the number of missing victims of the conflict could range from 98,000 to 200,000 people.

Colombian Prosecutor Javier Sarmiento, responsible for human rights protection, emphasised that authorities must act quickly to dispel any doubts regarding these reports. Cooperation with international organisations, such as the UN, is crucial in the process of clarifying the fate of missing persons and restoring justice to the victims of the conflict.

This issue sheds light on the difficult situation in Colombia, where despite the signing of the peace agreement, many issues related to the past remain unresolved. The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) waged a civil war for many years, which claimed over 220,000 lives, most of whom were civilians.

There are many mass graves in cemeteries, where unidentified victims still lie. But there are also reports of other places where the bodies of murdered individuals could have been buried.
