US envoy counters Medvedev's WWIII remarks amid sanctions talk

The US Special Envoy to Ukraine, General Keith Kellogg, has responded to Dmitry Medvedev's post, in which Medvedev mentioned World War III. "Stoking fears of WW III is an unfortunate, reckless comment by Medvedev and unfitting of a world power," wrote Trump's advisor.

"Regarding Trump's words about Putin 'playing with fire' and 'really bad things' happening to Russia. I only know of one REALLY BAD thing — WWIII," Medvedev wrote on his profile on platform X.

These words were in response to an earlier post by the US president on the Truth Social platform. "What Vladimir Putin doesn’t realise is that if it weren’t for me, lots of really bad things would have already happened to Russia, and I mean REALLY BAD. He’s playing with fire!" Trump wrote on Tuesday.

Kellogg sharply to Medvedev: "Stoking fears"

"Stoking fears of WW III is an unfortunate, reckless comment by Medvedev and unfitting of a world power," wrote General Keith Kellogg on platform X.

He assured that Trump is working on ending the war and stopping people in Ukraine from dying. He added that the United States is still waiting for the Russian memorandum regarding a future peace treaty. "Cease fire," General Kellogg concluded his post.

Will there be new sanctions on Russia?

Last week, the American press reported that pressure is mounting in Congress on Trump to impose new sanctions on Russia. A bill imposing restrictions on the Russian banking and energy sectors, as well as introducing 500% tariffs on goods from countries buying raw materials from Russia, has already been signed by 81 out of 100 senators. According to Punchbowl News, Republican senators believe that Vladimir Putin is 'outplaying' the president and feigning willingness to negotiate.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio assured last week that the Trump administration will support this bill if there is no progress in peace negotiations. He emphasised that Trump has so far refrained from threatening sanctions to avoid discouraging Russia from further talks.

According to CNN and "The Wall Street Journal," Donald Trump may announce new sanctions against Russia as early as this week.
