British journalist faces hostility: Anti-UK sentiment in Trump circles

A member of the US House of Representatives, Marjorie Taylor Greene, attacked Sky News reporter Martha Kelner, telling her to "go back to your country." The journalist revealed that there is a hidden animosity towards the United Kingdom within Donald Trump's circle.

Martha Kelner, a 35-year-old correspondent for Sky News, spoke about the extraordinary outburst from Marjorie Taylor Greene after a Congressional hearing regarding the Signal messaging app scandal.

Greene, known for her controversial remarks, criticised Kelner, saying: "We don't want to know about your opinion and your reporting. Why don't you go back to your own country?" She also added: "Do you care about the people from your country? What about all the women who are raped by immigrants? Do you care? Okay, you're done."

According to Kelner, Greene's reaction reflects an anti-British and anti-European attitude within Trump's administration. "Her shouting at a journalist and being so rude in one of America's most important institutions is not a good look," she said in an interview with the Daily Mail.

Despite Donald Trump being known for his admiration of the late Queen Elizabeth II, the journalist believes he does not hold the United Kingdom in high regard. She also mentions JD Vance's speech in Munich, where he claimed that immigration and the erosion of free speech pose a greater threat to the United Kingdom and Europe than Russia.

During the confrontation, when Kelner asked Greene about the leak of messages from the Signal app and potential threats to American lives, the Representative immediately inquired about the journalist's origin. Upon hearing that it was the United Kingdom, she went on her tirade.

Kelner emphasises that she did not take the attack from the member of the US House of Representatives to heart. "I did expect her to take that tone with me. I didn't take it personally, and I'm not a victim," she stated. The journalist admitted that she received numerous messages from Americans apologising for Greene's behaviour.

Is this Trump's tactic?

Kelner also notes that attacks on journalists are becoming increasingly common in circles associated with Donald Trump.

"It was an exercise in deflection but attacking journalists is not going to make us go away. We're still going to be there. We're still going to be asking the questions," she summarised.
