US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the possibility of the US withdrawing from the peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. President Donald Trump is frustrated with their progress.

Trump threatens: We will say we're quitting

Later that same day, Trump himself confirmed this.

"Now if, for some reason, one of the two parties makes it very difficult, we're just going to say, 'you're fools, you're horrible people,' and we're going to just take a pass" - Trump said during the swearing-in ceremony of the television-known doctor, Mehmet Oz, as the overseer of state health insurance.

Nevertheless, Trump expressed optimism and hope that he would manage to bring an end to the conflict, claiming that there is "really good chance" for this. When asked whether he believes Vladimir Putin is "playing him" Trump replied that "nobody is plying him" but added that it will become clear in the coming days.

Medvedev comments on Trump's words

Medvedev commented on these events on his English-language account on the platform X.

"American officials have said that if there is no progress on the Ukrainian case, the United States will wash its hands of it. Wisely. And the EU should do the same. Then Russia will figure it out faster" - wrote the Vice Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

Starmer called Trump. The topic included Ukraine

On Friday evening, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer had a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump about bilateral trade, as well as the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East.

The Bloomberg agency reported on Saturday that the United States is ready to recognise Russian control over the Ukrainian region of Crimea as part of a broader peace agreement between Moscow and Kyiv.
