White House unveils new £395m military aid package for Ukraine
The White House announced on Thursday a new military support package for Ukraine, which includes additional ammunition for air defence systems, drones, and armoured vehicles.
During Thursday's press briefing, National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby provided details about the new tranche of military aid. The package includes missile systems for air defence, artillery ammunition, drones, and armoured vehicles.
Although the value of the equipment supplied was not disclosed, earlier reports suggested it costs around £395 million.
The package announced on Thursday is the 72nd tranche of weaponry given to Ukraine from U.S. reserves, and the total value of delivered and promised aid already exceeds £50 billion.
Kirby announced that the outgoing administration of President Joe Biden is preparing additional support tranches and plans to continue arms deliveries until the end of the term. However, it's unclear whether the entire available pool of funds will be utilised before the change of power. Currently, the administration still has nearly £5.5 billion available for this purpose.
