How to prepare the perfect yeast rolls?
The key to the flavour of these yeast rolls is well-prepared dough. I use traditional pizza dough, which after baking has the perfect texture - crispy on the outside, yet soft and fluffy inside.
Ingredients for the Dough:
- 250g all-purpose flour,
- 25g fresh yeast,
- 300ml warm water,
- 1 tablespoon olive oil,
- 1 teaspoon salt,
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar.
Ingredients for the Filling:
- 3 medium onions,
- 150-200g canned ham,
- 100g yellow cheese,
- 1 teaspoon chopped basil.
Ingredients for the Tomato Sauce:
- 3 tablespoons tomato paste,
- 1 tablespoon hot ketchup,
- 1-2 tablespoons water (optional, if the paste is too thick),
- 1 clove garlic,
- A pinch of salt, pepper, and sugar.
Preparation Step by Step
1. Preparing the Dough
Dissolve the yeast in warm water with sugar and leave it for a few minutes. Then, add sifted flour mixed with salt and olive oil. Knead the mixture until a smooth and elastic dough is formed. Place it in a bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise for an hour.
2. Preparing the Filling
Slice the onions into half-rings and sauté them in a little olive oil until translucent. Add diced ham, mix, and lightly sauté. Grate the cheese on a coarse grater.
3. Forming the Yeast Rolls
When the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface to form a rectangle. Spread it with tomato sauce, evenly distribute the filling, and sprinkle with grated cheese and basil. Roll it up into a log and cut into slices about 1cm thick.
4. Baking
Place the ready rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake at 250°C for 8-10 minutes until they are golden and crispy.
These yeast rolls are a real hit in my kitchen. After baking, they have the perfect texture and fantastic flavour, combining aromatic spices, cheese, and crispy dough. Serve them warm or let them cool and serve as a snack for work. Try this recipe, and you definitely won't regret it!
