Zelensky strongly responds to Trump's comments on war
Donald Trump recently compared the Russian invasion of Ukraine to "two young children fighting." The comment was met with strong opposition from Volodymyr Zelensky, who reminded Trump that Putin is a "murderer."
Donald Trump likened the situation between Russia and Ukraine to a kids' brawl. "Sometimes you see two young children fighting like crazy. They hate each other, and they’re fighting in a park, and you try and pull them apart. They don’t want to be pulled. Sometimes you’re better off letting them fight for a while and then pulling them apart," said Trump in the Oval Office during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
The American President's comments met with international indignation. In an interview with American television network ABC News, President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the controversial remarks. "We are not kids with Putin at the playground in the park. He [Putin] is a murderer who came to this park to kill the kids," rebuffed the Ukrainian President.
Zelensky also spoke of the countless personal tragedies that Ukrainian families face everyday since the start of Putin's invasion. He described a story of a father, who lost his wife and three children during a Russian attack. Donald Trump, who lives thousands of miles away from the war zone in Ukraine, "could not feel fully and understand this pain," added Zelensky.
Ukrainian President has announced that 631 children have been killed since the start of the war. Meanwhile, on Thursday, Donald Trump recalled a conversation with Vladimir Putin, in which he claimed to have used the same analogy of the children fighting. According to Trump, however, he urged the Russian leader not to retaliate in response to a Ukrainian strike on Russian airbases.
