Stains mar the aesthetics and appearance of glasses. Even after washing, unsightly marks can give an unfavourable impression. While using them every day might not be a problem, when hosting guests, we want everything to look its best. At such times, a quick method for removing stains from glasses is invaluable.

How do stains form on glasses?

Stains on glasses are usually caused by limescale deposits. They form when drops of water dry on the glass surface after washing. A dishwasher, even with rinse aid, may fail to prevent this effect. Polishing alone often isn't enough, and rewashing the dishes doesn’t suffice unless they are thoroughly dried. Fortunately, there's a simple trick for quick stain removal.

How to eliminate stains on glasses?

To remove stains, you will need vinegar and salt. Mix half a cup of vinegar with a cup of water and add a teaspoon of salt. Stir until the salt dissolves. Use this mixture to wash the glasses with a sponge soaked in it. Vinegar and salt effectively dissolve limescale, removing all stains with minimal effort. Finally, it's advisable to polish the glasses with a cotton cloth for the best results.

Other uses for vinegar and salt

A mixture of vinegar and salt is not only effective for stains on glasses. It also works well for removing tough dirt from various surfaces, including wooden accessories. You can use it to clean a board or spoon that wasn’t washed immediately after use. Pour vinegar over the surface, sprinkle with salt, wait about three minutes, and then wash as usual. No trace of dirt will remain. It's important to dry wooden elements thoroughly afterwards to protect them from moisture damage.
