Billie Eilish is one of the most popular artists of Generation Z. If it weren't for her age and relatively late debut—the first full-length album, "When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?", was released in 2019—she would surely be at least in Billboard's top 10 most important pop stars of the 21st century. Ageism may have cost her the title, but nothing will take away Billie’s sold-out arenas and fans willing to go to great lengths for her.
While concerts are great fun, provide a unique experience, and enable interactions between fans and the artist, they can also be dangerous. A case in point is the tragedy that occurred during Astroworld, a festival by Travis Scott, where nine people lost their lives and hundreds were injured. Problems can also arise from seemingly harmless behaviour, like throwing gifts to idols on stage.
A fan threw a bracelet at her. Billie Eilish got hit right in the face
For a long time, artists have been asking fans to think rationally and not throw anything on stage during performances. Musicians are focused on their work and cannot see items coming towards them, which can easily lead to an accident. Fans do not only throw harmless things like flags or flowers but also phones and jewellery, which can be potentially dangerous. Bebe Rexha experienced this firsthand when she was hit in the face with a phone, resulting in a split eyebrow and the need for stitches.
Despite the warnings, people still haven't learned. A similar incident recently happened to Billie Eilish. A fan threw a bracelet that struck her right in the face. It was apparent that it hurt her—she paused the song for a moment but then continued, discarding the "gift" from the stage.
