Firefighters from Jersey are appealing to residents to install the What3Words app on their phones. According to the BBC News portal, this app enables exact location determination when necessary. Through the grid system, the area is divided into squares measuring about three by three yards, each with its own distinct three-word address.

The app will help locate those in need

A fire department representative explains that when reporting an emergency, one of the first questions asked is "Where is the emergency?". Describing the precise location can be difficult, so the W3W app simplifies the process by providing rescue services with an accurate position. For instance, the fire station headquarters in the app is identified as "returns.managed.defender".

Shorter winter days and adverse weather conditions, such as rain or fog, increase the risk of accidents. Firefighters emphasise that emergencies can occur anywhere, from Five Mile Road to the cliffs on the northern coast. Relying on descriptions based on landmarks can delay response times in life-threatening situations.
