Lewis Hamilton immortalised in Naples with new Ferrari figurine
In Naples, Lewis Hamilton's move to Ferrari was commemorated by the creation of a figurine depicting him in a red racing suit. This symbolic gesture took place a day after the Briton’s first drive in the Italian team's car. The 40-year-old driver is regarded as one of the finest in history.
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion's transfer to the Ferrari team was celebrated uniquely in Naples. A figurine of the 40-year-old driver dressed in the red suit of his new team appeared in the workshop of the renowned nativity scene maker. This event happened a day after Hamilton first took the wheel of the Italian team’s car.
The British driver was warmly received by fans on the Modena track and in southern Italy. Naples, known for its passionate football supporters, also supported Hamilton. On San Gregorio Armeno Street, famous for its nativity scene workshops, a statue of the new Ferrari driver attracted attention, displayed in the window of master craftsman Genny Di Virgilio's workshop.
The figurine, crafted from terracotta, depicts a smiling Hamilton in a red suit with a helmet tucked under his arm. Di Virgilio paid attention to details such as earrings and rings, which are characteristics of the F1 champion.
Genny Di Virgilio expressed confidence that Hamilton's collaboration with Ferrari would once again propel the team to global success, highlighting high expectations for the year ahead.
Hamilton's figurine was placed near a likeness of the world’s number one tennis player, Italian Jannik Sinner. This symbolic juxtaposition highlights the significance of sports icons in Italian culture. Lewis Hamilton has won the Formula 1 world championship seven times, four of which were achieved from 2017 to 2020. The last time he accomplished this was five years ago. He is considered one of the greatest, if not the most significant, driver in Formula 1 history, and he was the first to surpass 100 race wins in 2021.
