Potatoes are among the most versatile vegetables that have graced our tables for generations. Although we often view them as a simple side dish, with the right preparation they can become the highlight of any meal. Potatoes are a staple in the cuisine, but how often do you search for a more creative way to prepare them? Classic boiled potatoes are delicious, yet they sometimes lack a hint of character. This is where the recipe for these slices, shared with me by my grandmother, comes into play. These crispy, golden potato slices, spiced and baked to perfection, make them a main dish, not merely a side.

They are perfect for a family dinner, a snack during a gathering with friends, or even a light meal during the day. Slices made according to this recipe are simple to prepare, and their flavour and aroma evoke memories of childhood and home-cooked meals at grandma's house.

Potato slices – a simple recipe for an unconventional taste

This dish is remarkably straightforward to prepare, and the end result is always outstanding. Baked potatoes acquire a crispy skin and a tender interior, and the addition of aromatic spices makes them not only satisfying but also deeply flavourful.

Ingredients:

  • 1.2 kg of potatoes,
  • 5 tablespoons of rapeseed oil,
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic,
  • a bunch of fresh dill,
  • sweet and hot paprika,
  • salt, pepper.

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the potatoes: Peel the potatoes and slice them into rounds about 0.5 cm thick.
  2. Frying: In hot oil, sauté the pressed garlic, then add the sliced potatoes. Season with salt, pepper, sweet and hot paprika. Fry for about 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Baking: Transfer the potatoes to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in an oven preheated to 220°C for 15-20 minutes, until golden and crispy.
  4. Serving: Before serving, sprinkle the slices with fresh dill.

You can adjust the basic recipe for slices according to your preferences. Try adding other herbs like rosemary, thyme, or oregano to the potatoes. You can also include diced bell pepper, onion, or mushrooms.
