Revive autumn breakfasts with chokeberry porridge delight
During the autumn, I choose dishes that effectively warm from the inside, adding energy and vitamins. While browsing my home supplies, I recently discovered a preserves jar that turned out to be a perfect addition to porridge. I prepare a bowl full of health in 2 minutes for breakfast or lunch while working.

In summer, I add fresh fruit, but in autumn and winter, I go for additions that I can mix with hot porridge. I want the dish not only to warm my stomach but also to positively impact my health. That's why I was so delighted with the chokeberry preserve I got from my mum. It turns out this addition pairs wonderfully with porridge.
The forgotten chokeberry is full of valuable nutrients
Chokeberries primarily contain a wealth of antioxidants. The tart skin discourages many people from reaching for these fruits, but it turns out that in preserves, it's not an issue at all. From chokeberry, you can prepare preserves and delicious juice or liqueur.
It's worth remembering chokeberry preserves when feeling under the weather. They contain a large amount of vitamin C and have anti-inflammatory properties. They are also a huge support for the digestive system, preventing constipation. They positively affect vision, help lower blood pressure, and reduce bad cholesterol levels.
What can you use chokeberry preserves for?
I'm not sure if I have enough supplies for all the experiments, but I already know that chokeberry preserve tastes great as an addition to porridge and when paired with blue cheese. Add it to a vinaigrette and drizzle it over a salad with rocket, blue cheese, roasted pear, and walnuts.
My mum's chokeberry preserve has a light consistency, so it also works well as a sauce for pouring over pancakes, classic crêpes, or waffles.
How to make quick porridge with chokeberry in 2 minutes?
I prefer porridge cooked with water because it is much lighter than when prepared with milk. However, if you'd like a creamier-tasting porridge, add regular or plant-based milk, such as oats, almonds, or coconut.
Ingredients:
- 100g instant porridge oats,
- 200ml water,
- A pinch of salt,
- 1 tablespoon of honey,
- 2 tablespoons of shelled walnuts,
- 2 tablespoons of chokeberry preserves.
Instructions:
- I pour water over the porridge and bring it to a boil. Once it starts bubbling, I remove it from the hob.
- I mix it with a tablespoon of honey and crushed walnuts.
- I place 2 tablespoons of chokeberry preserves on top.
