The Russians claim they dropped a Soviet FAB-1500 demolition bomb on the power plant. The video shared online shows the moment of the explosion, after which clouds of dust rise into the sky.

The bomb was dropped on Friday on the Kurakhove thermal power plant on the Volycha River, about 14 kilometres from Kurakhove.

Journalists from Hromadske also witnessed the shelling and recorded the moment of impact.

The FAB-1500 bomb, weighing approximately 1,500 kilograms, is guided towards its target by a guidance system and retractable wings, allowing it to glide in the right direction. Why do the Russians use the FAB-1500? Because the damage it causes is very severe.

220-330 yards daily. Russians advance

Earlier, AFP agency, citing a source in the Ukrainian army, reported that the Russian army is advancing about 200 to 300 metres daily towards the town of Kurakhove in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, which is a strategic logistical hub.

An informant from the agency added that the situation is worse than in the vicinity of Pokrovsk, located about 40 kilometres north of Kurakhove.

Both towns are important logistical hubs for the Ukrainian forces and therefore remain a key target for Russian forces in Donbas.

In early August, Ukrainian forces launched an offensive in Russia's Kursk region, among other reasons, to divert Russian troops from the Donetsk front. By the end of August, the Ukrainian army reported controlling an area of 1,240 square kilometres in this region. However, in September, Ukrainian forces began to lose ground as a result of the Russian army's counteroffensive. On Friday, AFP reported, citing a source in the Ukrainian army, that an area of 800 square kilometres is under its control.
