Tony Radakin, in an interview with the BBC, stated that in October, Russian troops were losing an average of about 1,500 soldiers per day. He added that Russia's total losses since February 2022 are nearing 700,000 soldiers.

"Russia is about to suffer 700,000 people killed or wounded – the enormous pain and suffering that the Russian nation is having to bear because of Putin’s ambition," emphasised the British general, noting that Russian society is paying an "extraordinary price" for the invasion of Ukraine.

Losses for small scraps of land

The General Staff of Ukraine estimates that the total losses of Russian forces in Ukraine amount to nearly 709,000 killed and wounded soldiers.

Radakin added that significant Russian losses were incurred "for tiny increments of land."

"There is no doubt that Russia is making tactical, territorial gains and that is putting pressure on Ukraine," he admitted, adding that Russia allocates more than 40% of its public spending to defence and security.
