Potato pancakes are one of those dishes that can save the day when the fridge is almost empty. They are inexpensive, delicious, and quick to prepare. Many alternative versions of the classic recipe have been created.

What makes good potato pancakes stand out?

Potato pancakes are appreciated for their delicious taste, crispy skin, and creamy, delicate texture. To achieve this effect, it's best to choose type C potatoes, characterised by their high starch content. Peel and grate them using the fine side of the grater. Also, carefully squeeze out the excess water so the batter will have a uniform consistency. A classic addition (although not necessary) is onion. In alternative versions, many more ingredients can be used.

Additions to potato pancakes

What additions are essential in "Chinese-style" pancakes? They are more filling because the recipe includes ham. This could be ham, bacon, or smoked pork. They are seasoned with soy sauce, ginger, paprika, and chilli. Compared to classic pancakes, they are spicier and have a distinct, oriental flavour. If you like Chinese cuisine, you'll surely enjoy them.
