Tom Hanks weighs future as LA fires spark survivor's guilt
Although their $26 million home survived the devastating fires in Los Angeles, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are considering leaving the area heavily affected by the disaster.
The massive fires that struck Pacific Palisades, a district of Los Angeles, and surrounding areas caused enormous damage, destroying many homes, including those of well-known personalities. While Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson's home miraculously escaped destruction, the couple feels a sense of "survivor's guilt" and are uncertain about whether they wish to remain in the area.
"Tom Hanks is dealing with a form of Survivor's guilt as his home is currently unscathed," a source revealed in an interview with the "Daily Mail". "He knows that he still isn't out of the woods, and he feels terrible about all his neighbours and friends who have lost everything while his place is still standing."
Their property, purchased in 2010 and covering an area of approximately 4,520 square feet, was at a sufficient distance from the nearest neighbour's house, which was completely destroyed by fire. Despite this, Hanks and Wilson remain undecided about returning to their home permanently. "They don’t know how they will wrap their heads around this," the source continued. "It would be very weird to stay once all the dust settles in a place surrounded by nobody, but those decisions will be made in the weeks and months to come."
Dramatic situation in Los Angeles
The fires in California forced over 180,000 Los Angeles residents to evacuate. More than 10,000 buildings have been destroyed, with about 400,000 customers throughout the state still without power.
Among the famous people who lost their homes are Anthony Hopkins, Heidi Montag, Adam Brody, John Goodman, Billy Crystal, Anna Faris, and others, who certainly do not face homelessness. The less privileged residents of this metropolis and animals are suffering the most.
Donations from stars are already beginning to flow into aid foundations. Jamie Lee Curtis announced that her family donated a million dollars.
