West treads thin line: Ceasefire could spell Ukraine's downfall
- There is a danger that the West might agree to a ceasefire with Russia. This would not signify peace but rather the capitulation of Ukraine, believes Polish Gen. Roman Polko, who warns against such a scenario.
In recent days, there has been an escalation of tensions between Russia and the West. Following President Joe Biden's decision to approve the use of American ATACMS missiles by Ukraine to strike targets inside Russia, Moscow launched a new intermediate-range ballistic missile at Ukraine.
On Friday evening, Vladimir Putin announced that Russia would continue testing the Oreshnik missile, launched on 21st November.
The war in Ukraine has been ongoing for over a thousand days, and the situation on the front is not favourable for Kyiv, which is why the topic of negotiations to end the hostilities is increasingly being discussed.
The General warns. "This will mean the capitulation of Ukraine"
- It seems that we are nearing the end of this war, as everyone is inclined to bring these proceedings to a close. This is why we observe significant efforts from Putin to seize as much Ukrainian territory as possible before the fighting ends - said in an interview with "Super Express" the Polish former Commander of the Land Forces, Gen. Waldemar Skrzypczak.
Gen. Roman Polko, former commander of GROM, shares a similar view. - I see two probable scenarios. The West will sign a so-called truce with Russia, which will have nothing to do with peace, but will mean the capitulation of Ukraine - he warned.
- Ukraine will be demilitarised and deprived of the possibility of joining NATO. It will then be only a matter of time before Putin rebuilds his capabilities and strikes again - he indicated.
Gen. Polko also emphasised that there is a second scenario. - The West will stop fearing Russia and provide Ukraine with such support that it will achieve a strong negotiating position and maintain its autonomy and security guarantees after the war ends - he told the newspaper.
