Zelensky expresses gratitude after Ukraine and Russia prisoners exchange
"Today, the first stage of the prisoner exchange agreed in Istanbul has begun. More stages will follow — at least, that’s what was discussed with the Russian side. I thank everyone making it happen," wrote President Zelensky on X.
As reported, today took place the first part of the exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and Russia. The main prisoners who took part in the operation were those who were wounded, severely injured, and younger than 25 years old.
In his post on X, President Zelensky thanked everyone involved in the operation, urging humanitarian helo and calling for a peaceful resolution of the war in Ukraine. The president also unveiled that he had a meeting concerning June's international agenda, claiming that "no meeting should be hollow." He also added, "If it doesn’t bring us closer to ending the war through diplomacy, it must help strengthen our defence, our active operations, or increase pressure on Russia."
Finally, he thanked Ukrainian soldiers for their courage. "I thank our warriors for their tenacity. The most intense fighting continues in the Pokrovsk direction, in the areas of the Kursk operation, and along the border in the Sumy region."
Zelensky also reminded the general tactics of Russian forces, adding morale to Ukrainian allies, claiming "Russian tactics remain the same everywhere: ignore losses and try to advance. But this potential isn’t infinite. A certain level of casualties — and our actions — should and do hinder their advance."
POW exchange
During the day, President Zelensky shared pictures of exchanged Ukrainian prisoners, welcoming them home.
In the first post dedicated to the beginning of the exchange, President Zelensky stated that Ukraine "counts on the full implementation of the humanitarian agreements reached during the meeting in Istanbul. We are doing everything possible to bring back every single person. We are working toward this at every level. We must bring home everyone who remains in captivity."
