Potato pancakes are one of those dishes that save the day when the fridge is almost empty. They are cheap, delicious, and quick to prepare. Many alternative versions have been created based on the classic recipe.

What makes good potato pancakes stand out?

We appreciate potato pancakes for their delicious taste, crispy skin, and creamy, delicate texture. To achieve this effect, it's best to choose type C potatoes, which are high in starch content. Peel and grate them using the fine side of the grater. Also, make sure to carefully squeeze out the excess water, so the batter will have a uniform consistency. A classic addition (although not necessary) is onion. In alternative versions, there can be many more ingredients.

Additions to potato pancakes

What additions make "Chinese-style" pancakes special? They are more filling because the recipe includes ham. This could be ham, bacon, or smoked pork. They are seasoned with soy sauce, ginger, paprika, and chili. Compared to classic pancakes, they are definitely spicier and have a distinct, oriental flavour. If you like Chinese cuisine, you'll surely enjoy them.
