Baffled Brits booted from Ryanair flight over snack spat
A couple from the United Kingdom was escorted off a plane by the police. This occurred because during the flight they purchased chips, water, and cola, which they couldn't pay for. "It was really embarrassing," commented Ann-Marie Murray in the media, who was involved in the incident.
The British couple experienced an unpleasant situation on the Ryanair flight when they failed to pay for the snacks. On March 28, during the flight from Tenerife to Bristol, Ann-Marie Murray ordered Pringles, water, and Coca-Cola for nearly £7 (CAD 12,7).
The travellers claimed the card payment system wasn’t working, and the couple didn't have enough cash.
Travellers left the plane escorted by police
Murray's husband offered to pay for the snacks after landing in Bristol, but the crew rejected this proposal, accusing the couple of "refusing to pay." After landing at Bristol Airport, police boarded the plane to remove the passengers.
"I thought it was a joke when the crew said they had called the police," reported Murray. "I was shocked when the police came onboard and we were asked to leave. It was so embarrassing. I had done everything I could to resolve it," she added.
The airline denies payment terminal issues
Ryanair stated in a statement to the portal "People" that the crew called the police because the passengers did not pay for the food and drinks and also became burdensome for the crew. Murray denies being rude, claiming that there was no raising of voices.
Murray explained to the police that it was a "silly misunderstanding." Other passengers informed her that the card payment system was malfunctioning on an earlier flight. Ryanair denies this, stating there were no issues with the payment terminals.
