Biden and Trump meet for ceremonial tea before transition
Joe Biden welcomed Donald Trump to the White House for a traditional meeting before the inauguration of the new presidency. Their spouses, Jill and Melania, accompanied them. Both presidents will proceed together to the inauguration ceremony at the Capitol.
On Monday, outgoing President Joe Biden met with his successor, Donald Trump, at the White House. The meeting took the form of a traditional tea before the inauguration of the new presidency. The event was also attended by the presidents' spouses, Jill Biden and Melania Trump.
First official meeting
Moments earlier, Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff met with Vice President-elect JD Vance and his wife, Usha. This was their first official meeting, as unlike President Biden, Harris had not previously invited Vance to her residence at the Naval Observatory.
Trump, along with his wife Melania, Vice President-elect JD Vance, and his wife Usha, began the day with a service at St. John's Church across from the White House.
Family members of Trump were also present at the church, including his daughter Ivanka with her husband Jared Kushner, as well as Elon Musk and the heads of the biggest technology companies in the U.S.: Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Apple CEO Tim Cook. All will also participate in the inauguration ceremony.
