Brave husband confronts polar bear to save wife in Fort Severn
An extraordinary encounter has been reported in Canada, where a man risked his life to protect his wife by confronting a polar bear. According to the Nishnawbe Aski Police, he sustained serious injuries in the altercation with the predator and is currently in the hospital.
This remarkable event is being covered by major global media outlets, such as BBC and CBS News. On Tuesday, just after dawn local time, a couple from the small community of Fort Severn in northern Canada found themselves facing an unexpected threat. According to local services, the couple had left their house to look for their dogs when suddenly a large polar bear charged at the woman from the driveway.
The husband quickly rushed to his wife's aid and, without hesitation, jumped on the bear to protect her. A struggle ensued between the animal and the woman's husband, during which the predator inflicted several injuries on the man.
The woman slipped to ground as her husband leapt onto the animal to prevent its attack. The bear then attacked the male, causing serious but non-life-threatening injuries to his arm and legs, reports BBC, citing a statement from the local police.
The couple was rescued by a neighbour
Hearing the commotion, a neighbour quickly came to the couple's aid and fired several shots at the bear. Startled by the gunfire, the animal retreated into the forest, leaving the couple behind. The bear later succumbed to its injuries that same day.
Immediate help was summoned for the injured man, who was transported to the hospital for further treatment. The attack has instilled significant fear within this small community. However, the police reassure residents that they are patrolling the area to monitor the presence of other polar bears.
