The prosecution accuses the former president of Brazil, among other things, of planning to poison the current president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Bolsonaro and seven of his associates face accusations of being part of a criminal organization that, with backing from certain factions of the armed forces, sought to dismantle the democratic rule of law and impose a dictatorship.

Will Bolsonaro go to prison?

After the announcement of the presidential election results in 2022, in which Lula, the left-wing politician and two-time president of Brazil from 2003 to 2010, won, Bolsonaro's supporters organized protests in the capital, Brasília, where they occupied the Presidential Palace, the parliament building, and the Supreme Court.

Bolsonaro, who faces up to 40 years in prison, has repeatedly denied all charges. He claims to be a victim of political persecution.
