What caused the bridge collapse?

Late on Saturday evening, in the Vyhonichy district of the Bryansk region, a tragic accident occurred. The Russian Federal Road Transport Agency, Rosavtodor, reported through the Associated Press that the bridge over the railroad tracks collapsed at the moment a passenger train was passing. The train was en route from Moscow to Klimovo in the Belgorod region.

Bryansk region governor Alexander Bogomaz wrote on Telegram that the collapse of the viaduct onto the railway tracks caused seven fatalities. Thirty people were injured, including two children, and they were transported to medical facilities in the Bryansk region. Two of the injured, including a child, are in serious condition. He added that all necessary assistance is being provided to the victims.

Authorities are working on-site

The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations promptly responded to the disaster, sending additional personnel to assist the rescue units at the scene.

The authorities of the Bryansk region, along with rescue services, continue their efforts to secure the accident site and provide aid to the victims.

The train was traveling from Moscow

The train was on the Moscow-Klimovo route. Moscow Railways claims that the collapse of the bridge in the Bryansk region was the result of "illegal interference".

Russian information channels Baza and SHOT on Telegram, which frequently publish information from security and law enforcement sources, reported that the passenger train had already hit the collapsed bridge. Baza indicated that, according to preliminary information, the bridge was blown up. However, there is still no evidence or official confirmation to support the explosion theory.

The Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine, is strategically important, but the Ukrainian side has not commented on this incident.
