Canada redefines arctic strategy, excludes Russia from talks

The Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, announced that the country does not intend to cooperate with Russia on matters concerning the Arctic. This decision is part of a strategy to strengthen relations with friendly regional countries.

During a press conference in Montreal, the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, emphasized that Canada does not plan to collaborate with Russia in the Arctic. According to "Kommersant," Carney highlighted that Russia is not considered a friendly country in this region.

The Canadian government announced at the end of 2024 the appointment of a special ambassador for the Arctic. This move aims to enhance security and stability in the region.

Carney emphasized that Canada intends to develop relationships with allies and like-minded countries.

Putin extends an olive branch

In response to these actions, the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, expressed readiness for cooperation with interested countries in the Arctic during the VI International Forum "Arctic: Territory of Dialogue."

Putin noted that Russia is open to coordinating efforts to ensure stability in the region.
