Ceasefire talks falter as US, Russia remain divided in Riyadh
Russia and the United States did not issue a joint statement following Monday's talks in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, according to a report by Reuters on Tuesday, which cited Russian lawmaker Vladimir Chizhov.
During these talks, Russia and the United States were unable to agree on a joint statement. Reuters conveyed this information, quoting Russian lawmaker Vladimir Chizhov.
Talks on ceasefire
Representatives from both countries spent the entire day discussing the ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the Black Sea. In an interview with Rossiya-24 TV, Vladimir Chizhov mentioned that the absence of a joint statement was due to Ukraine's resistance.
The fact that they sat for 12 hours and apparently agreed on a joint statement, which was not adopted though because of Ukraine’s position, is very typical and symptomatic, he stated.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that the details of the talks would not be disclosed. He explained that these were technical talks that investigated the specifics very deeply. Therefore, the content of these negotiations will certainly not be made public, he noted.
Russia's demands
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the Kremlin expects the USA to persuade Ukraine to reach a maritime trade agreement in the Black Sea. Russia also demands the lifting of restrictions on Russian grain and fertilizer trade. Although exports of these goods are not subject to Western sanctions, there are obstacles related to payments, logistics, and insurance, as noted by Reuters.
The purpose of the talks in Riyadh was to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
