Cheddar-infused meat patties bring a flavorful twist to dinner
Think there's not much you can change in the recipe for meat patties? Recently, I added an ingredient that particularly impressed the younger ones. It's a combination known from burgers, but it also works wonderfully for meat patties.
Meat patties are one of the classic yet favourite dinners. We have them quite frequently because ground meat is easy to find and relatively affordable. We usually prepare them with pork, sometimes with a mix of beef. Many folks also enjoy the lighter version with poultry. What addition can enhance their flavour even more? Recently, I opted for cheddar cheese.
Why do we like cheese when it's warm?
The combination of meat and cheese isn't typical in cuisine. However, it's common in burgers. Melted cheddar cheese is often added not only to meat dishes. We're familiar with it from pizza and toasted sandwiches, for instance. Many people think cheese is even better after heating, as it gains aroma, and the effect of "stretchy" cheese is appealing. Such patties are perfect for dinner. They pair well with potatoes and coleslaw. My kids also love them for dinner with a side of ketchup and a salad made of radishes and pickled cucumbers.
Which cheese melts well?
For patties, choose a cheese that melts easily. Not every type tastes good when warm. Cheeses with a high salt content melt poorly. Those suited for heating contain a good amount of fat and moisture. Cheddar, gouda, and emmental are ideal options. They provide plenty of protein, calcium, and vitamins A and B12, supporting the nervous system and strengthening bones. As for the meat, it’s best to use pork with a bit of beef, and you can grind it yourself or ask at the store.
