Cleaning the forgotten kitchen gap: An easy guide to hygiene
In the kitchen, we often focus on cleaning countertops, the sink, or the induction cooktop itself, forgetting about one small but very problematic spot – the gap between the countertop and the cooktop. How do you get rid of dirt from this hard-to-reach space?
Even though the surface of the induction cooktop is smooth and easy to clean, the space between it and the countertop is often overlooked. That's where food scraps, bread crumbs, greasy stains from frying, and even dust find their way.
Because the gap is narrow and hard to access, many of us delay cleaning it or completely forget about it. Unfortunately, over time, the accumulated dirt can harden and become difficult to remove, as well as promote the growth of bacteria.
A simple way to cleanliness without dismantling equipment
You don't need to disassemble the induction cooktop or use specialized tools. All you need is a wooden skewer stick and a piece of damp paper towel. What can make a difference is adding a little vinegar to the water, which has antibacterial properties and helps dissolve greasy residues.
How to do it step by step?
- Wrap the tip of the stick with a damp paper towel.
- Moisten the towel with water and vinegar to enhance the cleaning effect.
- Gently insert the tool into the gap between the cooktop and the countertop.
- Slowly move the stick along the entire gap, thoroughly removing all dirt.
Why is regular cleaning of the gap important?
Even though this spot is small, neglecting it can lead to several problems. First, accumulating dirt and grease becomes a breeding ground for bacteria, which can affect the health of household members. Second, food scraps left in the gap can cause unpleasant odours. Finally, a neglected gap can lead to faster wear and tear of the induction cooktop, as food particles can get into the device's mechanism.
