What do you need to know?

  • Marjorie Taylor Greene, an American congresswoman, published a controversial post on the X platform in which she appeared to celebrate the death of Pope Francis.
  • Her words triggered a wave of criticism among users who accused her of a lack of respect and hypocrisy.
  • Greene herself declares that she is a Christian.

Why did Marjorie Taylor Greene celebrate the death of the Pope?

Marjorie Taylor Greene, a loyal supporter of U.S. President Donald Trump, published a post on her X platform account in which she expressed joy over the reported death of Pope Francis.

In a post on her profile followed by 1.5 million people, she wrote: "Today there were major shifts in global leaderships. Evil is being defeated by the hand of God."

How did social media users react?

Greene's post received an immediate reaction from users of the X platform. One commenter described her as "a disgrace to America," while another directly challenged her with the question: "How can you live with all that hate in your heart?" Another user wondered how she could call herself a Christian while at the same time "dance on a man's grave."

Marjorie Taylor Greene claims to be a Christian

Greene, who often posts controversial content, apparently has no intention of deleting or explaining the post. As a loyal supporter of Trump's policies, she did not hold affection for the Pope, who had clearly different views on migration and guns compared to her political stance.

Interestingly, Greene herself declares that she's a Christian. On Sunday morning Eastern Time, on the same platform, she posted an image of Jesus with the comment: "I hope everyone is having a wonderful Easter. He is risen, and we are forgiven."
