Memorial Day, the American federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May, commemorates U.S. citizens who died while serving in the military. This year, it falls on May 26, which is the upcoming Monday. Unfortunately, the weather forecast is not promising. On the contrary, it could be extremely dangerous.

Weather threats in the USA

Meteorologists from AccuWeather are warning about upcoming storms that could affect the Ohio, Tennessee, and central Mississippi valleys. These regions have previously suffered from the tragic effects of storms, and there is currently a high risk to the lives and property of the residents.

The UPI agency reports that the area from northeastern Texas to Georgia could experience tornadoes, destructive winds, large hail, intense lightning, and flash floods. Repeating storms increase the risk of flash floods, particularly in the central Mississippi valley.

On Wednesday, May 21, in the afternoon and evening, warming in the southeastern USA could intensify storms. Strong winds, hail, local tornadoes, and flash floods are expected. Towards the end of the week, intense weather phenomena are expected to return, moving westward over the central states.

Long-term threat

In total, over 60 million people live in these risk zones. The storms will be accompanied by strong winds, hail, and tornadoes, and these phenomena may persist in some areas until the following Wednesday, lasting over a week.
